Our annual Mobility Dogs fundraiser was back on Saturday
28 September 2019

What a night! Great quiz fun, friends and family and a fundraising success to boot.

A huge thanks to Craigs Investment Partners and Claire Dower, BDO, Fisher and Paykel and Trade Depot for sponsoring the event.

And we couldn't have done it without support and donations from so many others. Thank you.

Not every Auckland child is as fortunate as we would think. So, the club has once again donated $2000 to the Foundation for pyjamas. It's a great feeling to give these kids a warm winter and help to keep them out of hospital!

The Middlemore Foundation really look after every child admitted to KidsFirst Hospital. A brand new set of pyjamas is given to every KidsFirst patient admitted to Middlemore as well as to each of their siblings.

END POLIO NOW

Polio throughout the world has been reduced by 99%. For as little as US60 cents, a child can be vaccinated against polio for life. We are closer than ever to ending this crippling disease forever.

The fight to end polio is a massive effort that Rotary and its partners cannot do alone. Help secure support from governments, non-governmental organisations, corporations and the public. Advocacy efforts help ensure that no child will suffer from this disease ever again. Local Rotary clubs including Ellerslie Sunrise are making history by supporting this amazing international action.

Annual Rotary Plum Pudding Fundraising

The Rotary Club of Ellerslie Sunrise have been distributing Rotary Plum Puddings throughout New Zealand and to its Rotary clubs since 2001 raising well over $1.8 million for charity. Every pudding sold provides a donation to the Rotary Club you have purchased from. In turn they are funding charitable works in your community. What could be better - delicious puddings and support for charity. Now that really tastes and feels good.

NEW CHRISTMAS PUDDINGS

Ongoing support to local schools

The Rotary Club of Ellerslie Sunrise is actively supporting local schools by donating books, helping with projects and sponsoring school events.

For example, the Dictionaries in School programme ensures all year 4 students attending Bailey Road School in Mt Wellington receive a free dictionary to take home. We are also sponsoring the development of their new Plant Nursery.

With our support, Books in Homes visits Panmure District School three times a year to give every child books to take home and keep. We have recently sponsored the school's end of year picnic transport so every child there can enjoy a trip to the swimming pool. Without the club's help, they would not have the means to make it happen.

A great team effort between our club and Mellons Bay School is also seeing old furniture from the school being shipped to Fiji where many students desperately need desks and chairs.

Along with the Variety Club and Owen Glenn, we supplied a replacement Sunshine Coach for the original van purchased in 1995. This also included extending its garage. The van, domiciled at Stanhope Road School, is for the use of youth in our area.

Waiatarua Reserve

Members of the Rotary Club of Ellerslie Sunrise are helping with the maintenance of the reserve.

Mobility Assistance Dogs Trust

The Rotary Club of Ellerslie Sunrise is a long time supporter of Mobility Dogs, a charitable Trust whose mission is to train mobility assistance dogs to enhance the lives of people living with physical disabilities.

In July 2008, Mobility Dogs and the Department of Corrections launched New Zealand’s first ‘Puppies in Prisons’ (PIP) programme. Mobility Dogs trainers carry out a well defined training programme whereby the prisoner handlers are guided in aspects of animal learning, behaviour, motivation, and development. Prisoners involved internationally in these types of programmes have stated that being part of the programme provided a purpose in their lives, taught them patience and responsibility, and instilled in them respect for others.

The partnership between the Department of Corrections and Mobility Dogs goes a long way to provide highly trained mobility dogs to meet the growing demand from New Zealand’s physically disabled community.

Emergency Response Kits

The Rotary Club of Ellerslie Sunrise coordinate the shipping of Emergency Response Kits to be distributed in the Pacific Islands after cyclones and disasters. The Kits are donated by all New Zealand clubs and contain life saving supplies.
